Last night’s Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council received several key updates on healthcare and education. Reporter Heather Clisby was there…
The Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council met last night to hear presentations from local law enforcement, healthcare and education entities.
The Morongo Basin Healthcare District, which covers 1,800 square miles, proudly presented their newly christened Mobile Medical Unit serving remote residents all over the basin. The white and green diesel-powered bus unit, measuring 38 by 12 feet, offers two clinic exam rooms, and can provide primary care, screenings and vaccinations. Potential locations include Yucca Mesa Community Center, Twentynine Palms Senior Center, Copper Mountain College, the Sportsman’s Lodge in Joshua Tree, and the Wonder Valley Community Center.
Next up was Tom Baumgarten, superintendent of the Morongo Unified School District, who provided updates on the school district and presented facts around the upcoming Bond Measure O. He made clear that if the bond passes, the school district will qualify for $30.5 in matching funds that can’t be spent on salaries, but only on capital improvements to repair aging facilities, upgrade security measures and update technologies.
Baumgarten also offered details on career-oriented programs and their new fleet of buses with air conditioning and security cameras that parents can access by phone app.
