MORONGO BASIN MAC ELECTS NEW CHAIRMAN AND TALKS ISSUES WITH UNINCORPORATED AREAS

Last night’s online meeting of the Morongo Basin Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) began with a swift election of Glen Harris to the position of Chairman (replacing Steve Reyes), and Kate Collins as Secretary.

Residents of Morongo Valley were advised to keep trash secured as bears and mountain lions have recently been spotted.

The Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Department noted an uptick in property crime over the summer. Regarding the ongoing eradiation of marijuana grows, Captain Luke Niles advised residents to be patient noting the legal work that must go into each raid. Several members spoke of concerns about the trash and structures that are left behind post-raid.

Joshua Tree resident and artist Blake Baxter presented on the lack of quality broadband in the region. The resulting discussion cited a need an ad hoc committee to address the situation.

Members voted to keep the MAC meetings online-only for the time being though a possible “hybrid” solution was discussed for meetings in 2022. The MAC is still looking for a Wonder Valley representative.

Resident Jane Jarlsberg suggested adding updates from local water districts and she was assigned to arrange for a representative.

The next MAC meeting is scheduled for November 8.
