The election earlier this month of Third District County Supervisor James Ramos to the California State Assembly means a few changes are in store for our Morongo Basin. Reporter Mike Lipsitz has this on what to expect …
The county supervisor’s field representative acts as the interface between the supervisor in San Bernardino and local residents. For the last three-plus years, working out of an office in the county building on White Feather Road, Field Rep Mark Lundquist and Executive Aid Christina Garcia have assisted Morongo Basin residents with everything from property tax and zoning issues, to development proposals, to storm cleanups, snakes on the loose, even tooth decay. That office will officially close on November 30; Ramos will be sworn in as a state assemblyman December 3. And on December 11, the remaining county supervisors are expected to appoint Ramos’ replacement. Presumably, the field rep’s office will re-open sometime after that. Along with the release of the third district staff, both the Morongo Basin and Lucerne Valley Municipal Advisory Councils and the volunteer delegates from the area’s unincorporated communities who serve on them will also be disbanded. Whether those councils will be reconstituted will be up to the discretion of the new supervisor.
