MORONGO BASIN HEALTHCARE DISTRICT: A COMMUNITY UPDATE

A year and a half ago, the Hi-Desert Memorial Healthcare District leased the hospital to Tenet Healthcare, which is now responsible for the operation of the hospital and its satellite facilities. The district changed its name to Morongo Basin Healthcare District, and besides serving as Tenet’s landlord, it operates the Morongo Basin’s two community health centers, in Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms. Managing editor Tami Roleff says the Yucca Valley Town Council heard a presentation about the healthcare district at its Tuesday night meeting, and files this report…

The Morongo Basin Healthcare District’s mission is now focused on its two health clinics in Yucca Valley and Twentynine Palms, and in its LIFT transportation service, which provides free non-emergency transportation to medical appointments. The district has two vans, and recently received donations of $30,000 to purchase a third van. The Morongo Basin Community Health Centers provide affordable health care on a sliding-fee scale for those with and without insurance. Services provided include primary care, pediatrics, behavioral health, chiropractic, pain management, wound care, general surgery, hepatitis-C, and dental services.
