The Democrats of the Morongo Basin will honor Yolanda R. Brown at its inaugural Grassroots Hero Award Sunday, September 22. Brown has been working with people in need, including asylum seekers who have been detained at various facilities in southern California, and raising money and supplies to help them. The Grassroots Hero Award will be held at 1 p.m. in Covington Park in Morongo Valley. Tickets are $25 and the event includes a catered lunch, mariachi music, and speakers. Proceeds will benefit the organization Border Kindness.
