It’s now possible to tell how many coronavirus cases—and how many COVID-19 deaths—there have been in 41 additional communities in San Bernardino County. Smaller unincorporated areas were added this week to a county dashboard tracking the virus, three months after the county began listing the number of cases and deaths associated with the virus in incorporated cities and some larger unincorporated areas. Here in the Morongo Basin we are up to 156 cases: Yucca Valley with 94; Joshua Tree 28; Twentynine Palms 17; Morongo Valley 15; Landers one; and Pioneertown one. The county’s seven-day moving average of new cases is at 676. The total number of people who have tested positive, 23,772, has doubled since June 29, and the number of those hospitalized, 611, has doubled in a month. The total number of deaths, 328, has taken more than a month longer than the hospitalizations to double.
Here are the latest numbers (as of 7/19/20) according to county and state public health officials.
