MORONGO BASIN ARCH PROVIDING SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS

For those who face addiction and homelessness, life can feel cruel. Thankfully, there is local support at Morongo Basin ARCH. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…

Formed in 2008, Morongo Basin ARCH—which stands for “Aligning Resources and Challenging Homelessness” — is a nonprofit organization that provides sober-living homes in Twentynine Palms for recovering addicts, one for women and one for men.

Each of the 12 tenants pays a rate of $400 per month or lower, depending on the situation. Food is not provided as the tenants also receive food stamps. Rented by Morongo Basin ARCH—which handles utilities and insurance—the homes are funded by bed fees, donations and fundraisers.

Tenants often come with medical needs, emotional issues and mental challenges and need bridge sheltering for a few months to regain their footing.
