MORE THAN 40 WILD BURROS SHOT IN SAN BERNARDINO COUNTY

The Bureau of Land Management and several organizations are offering rewards for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever is responsible for the shootings of more than 40 burros in San Bernardino County. Since May, 42 wild burro carcasses with gunshot wounds have been found along the 15 freeway corridor between Halloran Springs in the San Bernardino County desert and Primm, Nevada.

The BLM, as well as the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, California Highway Patrol and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife are investigating. The BLM is offering a reward of up to $10,000. The American Wild Horse Campaign ($2,500), Return to Freedom ($5,000) and The Cloud Foundation ($1,000) are also offering rewards. The animals are federally protected from capture, branding, harassment, or death under the Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act of 1971.
