A new year means new laws in California. Managing editor Tami Roleff highlights some of the changes coming in 2020…
Among the new laws that take effect January 1, 2020, is one that makes it easier for high school students to participate in dual enrollment with community colleges. Another law will add one point to a driver’s record if there are two or more violations for driving with a cell phone in a three-year period. And new laws will ban the sale of new fur, as well as banning the recreation and commercial trapping of fur-bearing and non-game mammals. And the state has clarified its rules for voting by mail. Employers have been required to allow their employees to take two hours off to vote by mail; under the new law, employers will no longer be allowed to require employees to bring their vote by mail ballots to work if they wish to take off two hours to vote.
