We have additional information regarding a multi-vehicle crash on a stretch of Highway 62 in Riverside County early Sunday morning (July 4). According to a press release from the Desert Hot Springs Police Department, officers were dispatched to the intersection of Pierson Blvd. and highway 62 around 2 a.m. for a report of a multi-vehicle collision. During their investigation, officers determined that a gray Chrysler van, driven by a 46-year-old male with three passengers, was traveling westbound on Pierson Blvd. attempting to cross northbound lanes of Highway 62. Meanwhile, a maroon Ford van, driven by an 18-year-old male with one passenger, was traveling northbound on Highway 62. The two vehicles collided at the intersection.
A 21-year-old male passenger in the Chrysler succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The driver of the Chrysler had life-threatening injuries and the two other passengers had non-life-threatening injuries. All three were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The driver and passenger of the Ford had complaints of pain and were evaluated on scene by medical personnel. The Desert Hot Springs Police Department Major Accident Investigation Team responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation into the collision.
