The Yucca Valley Cross Country team kicked off its season in Santa Barbara at the Gaucho Invitational. Coach Jay Stepp said the boys placed fourth out of 14 teams and the girls were sixth out of 14. Up next is the Beaumont invitational on Saturday, September 9, at 8:00 a.m. 
Jorge Diaz led the way with a fifth place finish. He covered the 3-mile course in 16:28. He was followed by Isaiah Wilson in eighth with a time of 16:37. The girls were led by Jazmin Angeles, who placed 17th in 20:37 and Emma Mills who placed 30th in 21:17.
  
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats varsity tennis team traveled to Cathedral City to face the Lions on Friday. Coach Bill Shay said the Ladycats came away with a decisive victory over the Lions 16 to 2. 
In singles action, the Ladycats were led by Alicia Gilchrist and Tamesha Jefferson, who both swept all three of their sets, while Lynn Meza-Hernandez won two of her sets. In doubles action, the Wildcats were led by the teams of Danny Morrissey/Alexis Soster, Saniyah Solwazi/Rosalind Carrllo, and Emma Romano/Bella Crank, who all won two of their sets, while the teams of Emily Stuckey/Shania Newby and Shaelita Chestnut/Trinity Bosch both won one set. The Ladycats improved to 2 and 1 on the year and travel to Palm Springs today.
