The Yucca Valley High School Lady Trojans Volleyball teams hosted the Shadow Hills Knights Wednesday afternoon. The varsity team fell 0-3. Head Coach Matt Jennings said Ashley Priest had six kills and one block; Haley Rayburn had four kills; Chloe Smith nine digs and Becky Messaros, 20 assists.
The junior varsity team won 2-0. Emily Vigrass, five kills, one block; Kyley Beatty, six kills; Becca Dumas, 16 assists; and Jackie Bolha, 16 digs.
The freshman team won 2-0. There was some great serving by Savanna Fowlkes and Kaylee Pope. The net play saw some great kills by Kloee Scaccianoce and Zena Yakimow. Setter Alessa Luckino added quite a few assists as the girls hit the ball well.
The Twentynine Palms High School Ladycats volleyball team lost in three hard-fought sets to the Bears from Big Bear. Coach Missy Franz said the Ladycats were led by Latasia Benevente, who had six kills, and Tatiyanna Mackall, who had five kills and two blocks. Hanna Beard had four kills and Captain Koko Cabrera had two tips, one ace serve, one block and 15 assists.
The Yucca Valley High School girls’ varsity tennis beat Shadow Hills High School 10-8 to stay undefeated in league. Coach Cindy Miller said all the players played really well. In singles, Carrie Scofield, Rachel Green, and Miranda Green. In doubles, Aimee Frank and Cionne Lonergan, Dawn Rich and Moriah Goddard, Aislinn Gultzow (Ash-Lynn GIL-SO) and Christa Jenkins. The league record is 5-0 and in first place in the De Anza League. Overall record is 8-1.
The Twentynine Palms High School girls’ tennis team increased their league standings to 3-2 with a big win over Big Bear yesterday. Coach Joe Ingram said every member of the Wildcats got in the game and they came away with an 11-7 victory. The doubles team of Marissa Washington and Keyonna Trader won their final set by a score of 6-4. Freshmen Danny Morrissey and Rosi Carrllo went from a 0-4 deficit to win their final match 6-4, clinching the victory for the ‘Cats.
