We have more information about a Yucca Valley man who was shot and killed in Arizona Thursday following a high-speed pursuit that started in Yucca Valley. Just before 11 a.m. Thursday, a Morongo Basin Sheriff’s deputy recognized the driver of a 2006 white Ford Focus near Dumosa Avenue and Onaga Trail in Yucca Valley. The driver, Christian Albarran, 26, had a no-bail arrest warrant for domestic violence, a $250,000 warrant for identity theft, and was on probation for domestic violence. When the deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, Albarran drove off at a high rate of speed on westbound Highway 62 to eastbound Interstate 10. Deputies gave up the pursuit in Rancho Mirage, and California Highway Patrol officers picked up the pursuit. CHP officers notified Arizona state troopers of the pursuit and said Albarran—whom they described as armed and dangerous due to previous arrests for violent crimes—was probably heading to Quartzsite, since his vehicle was registered to an address there. Arizona state troopers and La Paz County deputies were staged on eastbound I-10 at the Arizona state line. At 2:15 p.m. Thursday, the Arizona law enforcement officers saw Albarran’s car get off the freeway at the Ehrenberg exit and they made a traffic stop of Albarran’s car. Troopers say that Albarran refused to comply with their commands to keep his hands in sight, and when he made a “rapid and furtive” movement, they were in fear for their lives and shot Albarran. Christian Albarran died of his injuries at the scene.
