MOJAVE NATIONAL PRESERVE ANNOUNCES ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE EXHIBITION, “EMBRACING THE INCARNATE.”

Dani Dodge, a former Mojave National Preserve Artist-in-Residence, is featured in a new art exhibition at Black Rock Art Gallery. The exhibit, “Embracing the Incarnate” is inspired by Dodge’s study of Joshua trees at Mojave National Preserve between 2018 and 2021, and opens tomorrow. Hilary Sloane will give you the show details…

Dodge spent the years of her residency documenting the trees with photographs which then progressed into multimedia layered images, painted with 24-karat gold leaf, sandwiched together, mounted on black backing, and framed. The final off-kilter images embody shadow while shimmering with light and represent the joy of the majestic trees, the devastation from the 2020 Dome Fire, and the glimmer of hope from their potential recovery and restoration.

The exhibition will run from February 27 until March 26 at the Black Rock Art Gallery in the Black Rock Nature Center at 9800 Black Rock Canyon Rd, Yucca Valley, CA 92284.
