MOJAVE DESERT LAND TRUST MOJAVE PRESERVE CLEANUP THIS WEEKEND

On Saturday, May 11, the Mojave Desert Land Trust, and other organizations are sponsoring a clean-up and restoration in the Lanfair Area within Mojave National Preserve, followed by a stargazing event. Dan Stork has the schedule…

The Lanfair cleanup in the Mojave National Preserve starts with optional free camping on Friday, May 10, after 5 p.m. at the Black Canyon Group Campground. The cleanup itself is scheduled for 9 to 3 on Saturday. Volunteers should bring water, lunch or snacks, gloves, sunglasses, long-sleeve shirt and long pants, sunscreen, wide-brim hat, hiking boots (not running shoes), and trash grabbers and knee pads (if you have them). In the evening, in a program starting at 6 p.m. at the Black Canyon Group Campground, astronomers from the Old Town Sidewalk Astronomers will point out constellations during a star tour. The Eta Aquarid meteor shower peaks on May 6, but a good number of meteors are expected after midnight on the 11. For evening activities, please bring: camping gear, camp chair, layered clothing, headlamp/flashlight, and food to share. Dinner is potluck, so bring your favorite dish to share with the group. Breakfast is on your own. The campground has vault toilets, trash receptacles, potable water, fire ring, grill, and picnic shelter with tables. RSVPs are required, so please contact Miz Hanford at phone or email in this story at kcdzfm.com 760-366-0542 or e-mail [email protected] for a map, driving directions, and a waiver form.
