The Mojave Desert Land Trust recently acquired three separate parcels totaling 400 acres within the Mojave National Preserve. The Mojave Purchased from a private family trust, the properties are relatively untouched and are characteristic of this area of the preserve near the Soda Lake and Little Cowhole Mountain. They are covered with creosote, saltbush, and desert lilies. The land trust plans to clean up trash, eliminate the signs of unauthorized off-road vehicle use, control weeds, and restore native plants, after which it will gift the land to the national preserve. So far, the Mojave Desert Land Trust has acquired more than 22,000 acres within the preserve and transferred almost 17,000 acres to the preserve.
