The Land and Water Conservation Fund is the main federal funding tool for national parks to acquire private land parcels within the parks. The Mojave Desert Land Trust and Joshua Tree Excursions have organized a hike on National Hike Day, Friday, November 17 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. to Samuelson’s Rocks, a unique cultural site where 1920s Swedish immigrant John Samuelson carved his philosophies into boulders on his property. During the gentle 2.5 mile hike, the importance of the conservation fund will be discussed. National Park Superintendent David Smith will also be attending. All attendees must RSVP for the event. Hikers will meet at the Mojave Desert Land Trust in Joshua Tree.
