MILITARY VETERANS TARGETED BY FAKE WEBSITE

A website that is pretending to help military veterans find jobs is actually infecting their computers with malware and spyware. Managing editor Tami Roleff says to stay away from hiremilitaryheroes.com

The website, hiremilitaryheroes.com, asks users to download an application, which installs spying tools on the users’ computers. Technical information collected by the hackers’ software reportedly includes details of the targeted machine’s hardware, firmware, drivers, and other specifications.

The name of the malicious website is very similar to a legitimate site run by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, http://www.hiringourheroes.org, which helps veterans find jobs. A memo from the Defense Department states that the Iranian hackers are hoping that someone working on a DOD computer will download the app so that the hackers can gain access to information on the Pentagon’s computers. Service members are urged to stay away from hiremilitaryheroes.com.
