Traci Wilson, the wife of Sergeant Major Daniel Wilson, has been named the 2019 Armed Forces Insurance Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center Spouse of the Year. Reporter Heather Clisby spoke with Traci Wilson and has this report…
Often unseen, military spouses protect and serve those who protect and serve. For a dozen years, Armed Forces Insurance has honored military spouses across all six military branches. After accepting over 1200 nationwide nominations and 86,000 national votes, Traci Wilson has been named the 2019 Military Spouse representing our own Marine base in Twentynine Palms.
“I had no idea that I was going to even be nominated for the award. It came as a complete surprise,” said Traci.
Both Colorado natives, Traci met her husband, Sergeant Major Daniel Wilson, in her senior year of college. He was a recruiter’s assistant and she was enlisting in the Army. She was 27 Delta, a paralegal specialist, and worked with the Judge Advocate General (JAG) Corps. After securing permission from Traci’s mother, Daniel proposed in the barracks of Fort Huachuca in Arizona, where Traci was stationed. A month later, they were married. Stationed in Twentynine Palms for just a year, the couple has five children, ages 2 to 15, and recently celebrated their 16th wedding anniversary.
“I believe that spouses – no matter a guy or girl – they do a lot at home. A majority of the work that they do is sometimes unseen so I’m honored just to even be included with the amazing spouses that are also winners for base and branch,” said Traci.
Now that all base winners have been announced, voting for the six branch winners will be conducted March 7 and 8. The overall winner will be announced on May 9 at Fort Meyer in Arlington, VA in conjunction with National Military Spouse Appreciation Day on May 10.
