The month of March brings the launch of spring, a time change, and the third annual fundraiser for the Mojave Desert Land Trust (MDLT); the conversation organization will host “Miles For MDLT” which encourages outdoor exploration while raising money. Participants set a goal of miles to walk, hike or run, and then obtain donations that will support MDLT’s conservation work.
Individuals can also win one of five prizes as they help MDLT reach their goal of $40,000 by March 31. Winning categories include Top Fundraiser, Most Miles Achieved, Most Creative Campaign, and Furthest Fundraiser from the Desert. Winners will receive gift cards from Teva.com for sandals or hiking shoes. The Top Fundraising Team (up to 10 people) will win a private wine tasting class from Total Wine.
In 2021, one participant hiked 185 miles, winning the prize for most miles covered, while another ran 67 miles through Joshua Tree National Park over four days. If you want to support their cause but would rather not leave the couch, MDLT is also selling t-shirts.
