Our local veteran outreach non-profit Mil-Tree will be holding a free writing workshop this Sunday, February 18th at Furstwurld from 12 PM to 4 PM as part of their expansive Tapestries of Transformation project. The class will be instructed by Z107.7’s own Gabriel Hart, a published author who will use his own hard-earned lessons to pull the best stories from the class’s participants.
For this Sunday’s writing workshop at Furstwurld, Hart will be instructing the transition from memoir to fiction, exploring the freedom inherent in the third person point of view. Hart says, “While each of our lives are unique, when we tell a story exactly how it occurred, it’s often so idiosyncratic and insular that it can feel self-indulgent and alienating to a reader. What I aim to do in this class is to pull the writer outward instead of inward, replacing themselves with characters to communicate feelings through actions, hopefully yielding something more universally relatable than a diary entry.” Hart asks participants to bring a pen, notebook, and their courage to step outside themselves.
Since Mil-Tree is a veteran outreach non-profit, Hart hopes to get as many veterans as possible to participate in this free workshop, but the class is open to all community members as well.
