METEOR SHOWER PEAKS TONIGHT

Desert residents will be able to see one of the best meteor showers of the year this weekend. The Orionids are some of the fastest and brightest of all the meteors because the Earth is hitting them head-on as it travels through the debris from Halley’s Comet. While Halley’s Comet passes by Earth every 75 years or so, our planet crosses paths with the icy particles left behind by the comet. The Orionids appear to originate from the constellation Orion and best viewing will be about 2 a.m.
