The Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District has a new chairman, and his name is Merl Abel. Reporter Joshua King has more details.
Merl Abel, the Yucca Valley mayor, was recently appointed as governing board chairman for the Mojave Desert Air Quality Management District. The MDAQMD’s Governing Board is the decision-making body for the District. The board is responsible for adopting rules, setting policies and providing direction on important air quality issues that affect the Mojave Desert. This 13-member body is composed of representatives from each municipality and county supervisorial districts located within the MDAQMD’s boundaries, and one public member appointed by the balance of the board. Mayor Abel has been representing Yucca Valley on the MDAQMD governing board for the past nine years.
In a related action, Mayor Pro Tem Kari Leon of Apple Valley was appointed Vice Chair of the Governing Board.
