In college sports, Copper Mountain Men’s basketball team hosted San Bernardino Valley College Wednesday night. The “Fighting Cacti” won 78-68.
Coach Britain Kelley said, “If you were not in attendance, you missed a heck of a game.”
This was the third time these two teams met this season, and the Wolverines have gotten the better of CMC in the first two contests. With the Fighting Cacti badly needing this win, to hang on to the hopes of potentially making the playoffs, the stage was set.
In the first half, there was some high-level basketball. Both teams gave it their best shot. Going into halftime, San Bernardino held the slight edge 31-29.
Kelly said it was “a game of chess” in the second half as both teams executed play after play, and exchanged the lead several times. Will Valsien and Tyler Hudson provided a steady attack for the Cacti which ultimately gave CMC the edge.
Tremendous plays down the stretch from sophomores Zack Kroker and Schnider Casseus sealed the deal for Copper Mountain College as they went on to win, 78-68.
Will Valsien led all scorers with 23 points. Tyler Hudson followed suit with 22 points and five assists of his own, and Hyking Brisbon had another double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
CMC will travel to Victor Valley College Saturday afternoon to see if they can build off Wednesday’s big win. Tip-off is at 3 p.m.
