Two Memorial Day ceremonies will be held locally tomorrow. The Twentynine Palms cemetery, at 5350 Encelia Avenue, will hold its annual ceremony in the rose garden, starting at 9 a.m. The Twentynine Palms Marine-Air Ground Combat Center’s assistant chief of staff, Colonel Hal Sellers, will be the guest speaker. Wreaths from 20 organizations will be presented during the ceremony and the graves will already be decorated with flags placed on them by scouts on Saturday. The Joshua Tree Memorial Park’s 17th annual Memorial Day observance begins at 11 a.m. with a military ceremony, followed by a free community barbecue and live music. Navy Captain Nadji Hariri of the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center’s Naval Hospital will be the guest speaker, and the ceremony will feature memorial wreaths, release of white doves, color guard and Taps. The free barbecue, with music by local bands Shadow Mountain Band, Shawn Mafia, and Van Vincent, starts at noon. There will also be a bounce house, vendors and family-friendly activities. The Joshua Tree cemetery is located on the south side of Highway 62 in Joshua Tree.
