Since news broke last week that a Ventura County judge had ordered a sexually violent predator to be settled in North Joshua Tree, our own county government mobilized at every level to oppose the plan. And at a hastily called emergency community meeting tonight in Joshua Tree, County Sheriff John McMahon and the County District Attorney’s Office will join third district county supervisor Dawn Rowe to share what they know about the plan, declare their opposition to it, and APPRISE the public on what they can do to ensure that … as Supervisor Rowe stated, “this dangerous predator never sees the light of day in our county.” Here’s reporter Mike Lipsitz with more on tonight’s meeting…
Supervisor Rowe called the Emergency Community Meeting as soon as word came that Joshua Tree had been pegged for the relocation of convicted repeat rapist and child molester Ross Wollschlager. Set for 5:30 p.m. at The Sportsman’s Club, 6225 Sunburst Ave., in Joshua Tree, Rowe’s staff first attempted to book the meeting at the larger capacity Community Center next door but that space was already booked. So with seating limited to roughly 250 people at The Sportsman’s Club, Rowe’s staff will tonight try out a new system and place up to nine video screens throughout the venue. If predictions are correct the screens will still not be sufficient and many of those planning to attend will likely be turned away for lack of space. Don’t despair though, Rowe’s office has promised the entire meeting will be available on YouTube tomorrow. Listen to Z107.7 News for continuing coverage.
