Since Desert Hot Springs approved the cultivation of medical marijuana in 2014, city planners expect more than 46 acres of medical marijuana to be cultivated in coming years. Taxes on the cultivation and sales of medical marijuana are expected to more than double the city’s $15 million budget. A free public forum on medical marijuana will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, at the Carl May Center, 11711 West Drive, in Desert Hot Springs. City officials, marijuana industry representatives, and patients will discuss the impact on patients’ health and the city. The event will be livestreamed at DHShealthycities.com.
