Measure Y—the mail-ballot election to decide the fate of the Hi-Desert Medical Center—was overwhelmingly approved yesterday. With only 25 percent of the 23,000 eligible voters voting, nearly 91 percent approved the 30-year lease agreement with Tenet Healthcare. Now that the agreement is approved, Tenet will operate the medical center, plus infuse $32 million in capital improvements into the system over the next three years. Current medical staff and employees in good standing will keep their positions with the Basin’s third-largest employer. The final results of the election will be released Monday, and will include ballots received at drop-off locations, and ballots postmarked by, but received after Tuesday.
