For at least the past two weeks, Marines at the Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms have been participating in several warfighting exercises—Integrated Training Exercise 1-21 and Service Level Training Exercise 1-21. ITX is the most comprehensive training conducted at the Combat Center and focuses on the tactical application of combined-arms maneuver, and offensive and defensive operations during combat. The SLTE exercises are designed to provide realistic and challenging training at every level of the Marine Corps to better prepare Marines to operate against future threats. The exercises include live-fire exercises in regiment-level training.

Marines with 3d Reconnaissance Battalion, 3d Marine Division, set up range 113 to zero M110 M40A6 sniper rifles during Service Level Training Exercise (SLTE) 1-21 aboard Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, Calif. Sept. 28, 2020. 3d Reconnaissance Battalion is attached to 4th Marine Regiment for the duration of SLTE 1-21. This is an exercise designed to provide realistic and challenging training at every level of the Marine Corps to better prepare Marines to operate against future threats. Due to high heat index and inevitable moisture build up during outdoor activity, the efficacy of the masks as a barrier are greatly reduced. Thus, Marines are not required to wear masks during these training events. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Staff Sgt. Laiqa Hitt)
