MARINES CANCEL PLANS TO TRAIN IN JOHNSON VALLEY SHARED USE AREA IN AUGUST

An about face from the Marine Corps on training exercises in the Johnson Valley area this August. On Friday, the Marine Corps announced the Johnson Valley Shared Use Area will remain open to the public August 1-30, 2018 and will not be used for military training during that time period. The closure of the Shared Use Area for military use was determined to be unnecessary after the Marine Corps revised the scope of training to be conducted in August 2018. Training in August 2018 will only be conducted within the base boundaries.
While this year’s exercise is cancelled, the Marine Corps plans to use the Shared Use Area for military training next year, August 1-30 of 2019. The announcement honors the commitment to provide a minimum of 12 months’ notice to the public of military training in the Shared Use Area.
