MARINE SHOT IN GUN-CLEANING ACCIDENT

A Marine who was cleaning his gun Wednesday night forgot one very important step—making sure the bullet was removed from the chamber. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Steve Wilson, Zachery Brugger, 23, a Marine with 3rdBattalion, 4th Marines, was disassembling his .40-caliber Glock in the 69900 block of Mesa Drive in Twentynine Palms, to clean it shortly before 10 p.m. Unfortunately for Brugger, he forgot to clear the chamber, and so when he pulled the gun’s trigger, he shot himself in the left thigh. Brugger was treated at the Naval Hospital on board the Combat Center. Wilson said no charges are expected to be filed in the incident.
