The way the Marine Corps fights in war could change, following an 18-month experiment currently taking place at the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms. According to the Marine Corps Times, Marines are experimenting with the size of the combat units, and with new equipment. Some of the high-tech gear being sent out with Kilo Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines, are drones, robotic vehicles, water-purification systems, and self-supporting energy systems. The new unit, named expeditionary landing team, used the unmanned tactical vehicles to carry some of the load so the Marines wouldn’t have to, and the drones were equipped with both aerial surveillance and live-fire missiles and bombs. The Marines are also experimenting with a small, unmanned, track vehicle with a machine gun and grenade launcher. To go with all this new equipment, the Marine Corps is considering changing the make-up of units and adding Marines.
