MARINE BASE GETS TOP AWARD FOR SUSTAINABILITY

The Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center at Twentynine Palms was named a recipient last week of the prestigious Environmental Awards Program by the Secretary of Defense. The Combat Center earned the sustainability award for a non-industrial installation because it added more photovoltaic power to the base; exceeded its water conservation goals; exceeded its goal for energy intensity; and its hazardous waste recycling program returned more than $600,000 to the base. The awards program is a competition among all the military services and bases. A panel of judges representing federal and state agencies, academia, and the private sector selected the winners.
