President Obama has nominated the commanding general of the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center for a promotion and reassignment to Camp Pendleton in Oceanside. Major General Lewis Craparotta’s promotion to lieutenant general must be confirmed by the Senate before he can assume command of the First Marine Expeditionary Force. Craparotta took command of the Combat Center and the Marine Air-Ground Task Force from Major General David Berger in 2014. Berger was promoted to lieutenant general and went to IMEF, Craparotta’s next command. Berger was nominated last week to be the next commander of U.S. Marine Corps Forces, Pacific. Brigadier General Mike Mullen will take over as the next commanding general of the Marine Air-Ground Task Force and Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center.
