A Marine living in Joshua Tree was arrested last month after his girlfriend’s infant daughter was found in a coma. According to a Sheriff’s press release, the 5 1/2- month-old girl was brought to Hi-Desert Medical Center November 19 where doctors determined she had a brain hemorrhage, due to injuries she had sustained. The girl was flown to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital, where doctors called in detectives from the Crimes Against Children detail to investigate. Sheriff’s detectives interviewed John Jeter, 24, a Marine stationed at the Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, and served a search warrant on a home in the 6100 block of Begonia Place in Joshua Tree. The baby is the daughter of Jeter’s girlfriend. On November 21, Jeter was arrested for investigation of assault of a child under 8 years old, resulting in a coma, and is being held at West Valley Detention Center with his bail set at $500,000. He is scheduled to be arraigned December 9. Anyone with further information is asked to call the Sheriff’s Department at 909-387-3651.
