Manhunt leads to helicopter pursuit in Yucca Valley on Sunday (3/23)

A manhunt for a convicted felon with a weapon ended in a helicopter pursuit in the mountain area of Yucca Valley.

On Sunday, (March 23) at 10:30 a.m., San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies located a 2018 Chevrolet Colorado, which had previously been documented as belonging to a wanted person, driving near the intersection of Old Woman Springs Road and Crestview Road in Yucca Valley. Deputies say they attempted a traffic stop but Steven Hansert, a 34 year-old resident of Desert Hot Springs did not yield and initiated a pursuit.

Deputies say that Hansert drove into a mountain area of Yucca Valley where his vehicle became disabled and he fled on foot into the 4600 block of Sand Piper Drive. With support from the Sheriff’s Aviation Unit deputies located Hansert and took him into custody.

Steven Hansert was arrested for investigation of felony evading, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition, and forgery. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center on $150,000.
