On what would have been his 100th birthday today, we remember Nelson Mandela, the former president of South Africa as a champion for human rights, dignity and freedom. To celebrate, local organizations are banding together in a fundraiser for the Morongo Basin Unity Home. Project Sheba, the Joshua Tree Retreat Center, and Morongo Basin Unity Home will celebrate with a #DanceLikeMandela fundraising event tonight. Mandela once said, “It is music and dancing that make me at peace with the world.” The event is set for 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, at the Joshua Tree Retreat Center. Music will be provided by Hunter and the Wick’d. Admission is $5 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit the Morongo Basin Unity Home. Prior to the show, at noon today, Hunter will give a presentation on the Mandela legacy to the Rotary Club of Twentynine Palms. Links for more information are available below.
