Man with warrant allegedly tries to bite deputies during arrest

A man with an active warrant is alleged to have tried to bite deputies during his arrest in Twentynine Palms.

At around 9:20 p.m. on Wednesday, Sheriff’s Deputies from the Morongo Basin Station contacted a man with an outstanding, no-bail warrant for burglary at a home near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Encelia Ave in Twentynine Palms. There, they say the suspect, identified as Robbyel Stevenson, 31, became irate with deputies and spit on them several times, and that while attempting to take him into custody Stevenson attempted to bite the deputies. Deputies say they were forced to use pepper spray to subdue Stevenson, who was eventually taken into custody for the warrant and additional charges of battery.

Robbyel Stevenson was arrested on suspicion of battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest, and the warrant for robbery and attempted burglary. He is being held at the West Valley Detention Center without bail.
