MAN SUSPECTED OF ATTEMPTED KIDNAPPING ARRESTED IN TWENTYNINE PALMS THURSDAY

A Twentynine Palms man suspected of attempting to kidnap a 14-year-old girl last month was arrested Thursday evening. According to a Sheriff’s report, the girl was outside her home in the 70800 block of Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms October 19 when a man, later identified as Freddie Day, 43, came up to her and asked her to help him jump start his quad vehicle. The girl told him she couldn’t help him and there was no one at her home who could help. After Day walked away, she went inside her home. As she entered her bedroom, she realized that Day was behind her. The girl told deputies that Day told her he could have raped and killed her, and then he grabbed her and gave her a “bear hug.” The girl then grabbed him by the throat, which made him release her, and she ran into the kitchen and grabbed a knife. Day fled into the desert east of the home. On Thursday, a deputy with the Sheriff’s Specialized Enforcement Team found Freddie Day in the 61900 block of Foothill Drive in Twentynine Palms and arrested him for investigation of kidnapping. Day was booked into the Morongo Basin Jail with his bail set at $125,000.
