A Yucca Valley man was rescued from a flooded wash after he was swept across the road at San Juan Road and Old Woman Springs Road in Yucca Valley Sunday. Sheriff’s investigators say Eugene Palmer, 43, of Yucca Valley, drove through water flowing across Old Woman at about 12:35 p.m. He lost control of his vehicle, which was pushed across the road by the flood waters into the wash, where it overturned and became trapped upside down in the flooded wash. Responding firefighters, trained in swift water rescue techniques, used the jaws of life to free him from the vehicle; he suffered minor injuries. Sheriff’s deputies remind drivers not to drive into active washes; as little as three inches of water is enough to move a vehicle.
