A Hemet man was killed in a tragic off-road vehicle crash in Johnson Valley early this morning. According to County Fire Captain Danny Stamps, the man, identified by the County Coroner as Nathan Alan Comstock, 39, and three passengers, including his wife, went for a night-time ride about 9 p.m. Monday in the Means Dry Lake area of Johnson Valley. Stamp said they got lost during the ride and at about 2:45 am decided the way out was to go down a very steep and treacherous trail called “Turkey Claw Trail”. The passengers got out of the 1989 Jeep Cherokee and when Comstock started driving down the trail, the vehicle rolled over 10 to 12 times and he was ejected. CHP investigators say he was not wearing a seatbelt or helmet and was crushed in the rollover. Stamp said his wife sat with him for hours while family members attempted to get a cell phone signal to call 911 to be rescued. Paramedics were finally dispatched about 3:30 this morning to the scene. Nathan Comstock was declared dead at the scene at 4:25 a.m.
