A man was hit from behind by a pickup truck and killed while walking along Highway 62 Wednesday morning. According to Deputy Jared Dominick, at about 10:48 a.m., Timothy Gleason, 49, of Twentynine Palms, was walking eastbound on the south side of State Route 62 on the bridge over the wash at Mojave Avenue just East of the Stater Brothers center in Twentynine Palms. Gleason was struck from the rear by an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup truck, driven by Brian Franco of Twentynine Palms and sustained fatal injuries. Deputy Dominick said Franco did not immediately stop but pulled over shortly after. State Route 62 in Twentynine Palms was closed between Larrea and Encelia for 7 hours while the Sheriff’s Major Accident Investigation Division conducted their investigation. Traffic was being diverted onto dirt roads in the area. The exact cause of the collision is pending investigation. Dominick said Franco was not cited pending investigation.
