MAN ARRESTED FOLLOWING STABBING, STAND-OFF, IN TWENTYNINE PALMS TUESDAY

A Twentynine Palms man accused of stabbing a woman held deputies at bay for about an hour before he surrendered Tuesday afternoon. According to Sheriff’s Captain Trevis Newport, the man, who has not yet been identified, stabbed a woman about 2 p.m. in the 5400 block of Daisy Avenue. The woman was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs, and the suspect then barricaded himself inside the home when deputies arrived. A stand-off ensued for about an hour, and residents in nearby homes were evacuated for safety reasons. Deputies finally managed to get the suspect to surrender and he was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, and charges of attempted murder are being considered as well.
