Man arrested at fatal collision scene for unrelated disorderly conduct

During an investigation into a fatal traffic collision, a man was arrested for investigation into drunk and disorderly conduct after he allegedly attempted to enter a fire truck at the scene.
A fatal traffic collision occurred on Saturday (March 21) at around 8:50 p.m. on Twentynine Palms Highway and Mountain View Circle in Joshua Tree. California Highway Patrol (CHP) officers and crews from San Bernardino County Fire responded to the collision. During their response, CHP officers say they witnessed a man attempt to open the door to a fire truck at the scene, then flee.
The CHP contacted San Bernardino County Sheriff’s deputies who located the suspect, Rocky Alvarez, 40, in the middle of the road. Deputies say that Alvarez appeared to have been injured in a fight, but that he declined to provide details about the altercation. Alvarez was treated for his injuries and arrested for investigation into drunk and disorderly conduct. He was released at the scene. The Sheriff’s Department says that they will follow up with Alvarez regarding the fight.
