Mammograms are an excellent screening and diagnostic tool for detecting breast cancer. The technology for mammograms is continually evolving; the newest technology is 3-D mammograms. Mammograms that use 3-D technology allow doctors to examine the breast using multiple images to build a three-dimensional image, and it can find cancers earlier while reducing the need for women to come back for a second mammogram. Hi-Desert Medical Center will hold a lecture on 3-D mammography, which will include a tour of the mammography suite, on Tuesday, October 7, at 6 p.m. at the Helen Gray Education Center on the hospital campus in Joshua Tree.
