A malware event experienced by College of the Desert in Palm Desert Sunday (August 23) may be affecting Morongo Basin residents who are students and faculty. A COD spokesman said its Information Technology team took immediate action to combat the malware threat and retained a third-party forensic team to help with recovery efforts and investigate the cause and scope of the incident. Cybersecurity experts have been working around the clock to bring all systems back online as quickly and securely as possible. A report has been filed with the Federal Bureau of Investigation. No time frame was given for restoration of the system, the college said the restoration process requires extensive system and data testing and it will not risk resuming operations before testing the stability and reliability of the College of the Desert computer system.
