MAKE YOUR OWN CLEANERS AND DISINFECTANTS

Scientists believe the coronavirus can live for hours, perhaps even days, on surfaces. To lessen your risk of contracting the virus, you should clean and disinfect surfaces and items you touch frequently. Managing editor Tami Roleff explains how you can make your own cleansers and disinfectants…

If you can’t find disinfectants or sanitizers in the stores, you have other options to clean frequently touched surfaces. You can use soap (or detergent) and water. You can also use four teaspoons bleach diluted with one quart of water; 70 percent isopropyl alcohol applied directly for 30 seconds before wiping off; or hydrogen peroxide (let it set for a minute before wiping off). Vinegar is not an effective disinfectant and should not be used. And check back with stores often to see if their stocks of sanitizers and disinfectants have been replenished.
