Now that Christmas is nearly here, many people will be traveling to grandmother’s house. The last thing anyone wants is a car that breaks down in cold, harsh winter weather. Reporter David Knutson says winterize your vehicle now before you leave…
Cold weather is hard on batteries. Check your batteries and charging system to make sure they are working properly. Clean and flush your antifreeze. Make sure your heaters, defrosters, and wipers work properly. Check your tires for tread and air pressure. If you’re driving into the mountains, bring chains for your tires. Be diligent about changing your oil. Check the brakes. Check the exhaust system for carbon monoxide. Keep the fuel tank at least half full at all times. Store in your vehicle an emergency kit with an ice scraper and snowbrush, jumper cables, flashlight, flares, blanket, extra clothes, candles/matches, bottled water, dry food snacks and needed medication.
