LUNAFEST FILM FESTIVAL TO CELEBRATE FEMALE DIRECTORS

Cinephiles take note: LunaFest, the first all-female traveling film festival, now in its 20th season opens today and runs through Wednesday. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details …

LunaFest, a virtual film festival organized by Copper Mountain College and sponsored by LUNA® Bar, will be available for screenings March 20 through the 24 with a live zoom discussion on March 24 at 6:30 p.m. LunaFest is provided free to students, alumni and the wider Morongo Basin community.

The 2021 line-up includes seven short documentaries by women and this year, LunaFest has partnered with Chicken & Egg Pictures to co-produce three of the featured films.

The festival aims to highlight the lack of female representation in the film industry noting that over the past 13 years, the population of female directors remains at 4.8 percent. However, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative reveals that 10.6 percent of 2019’s top movies were directed by women – the highest percentage in over 10 years.

Interested audience member must register in advance to receive viewing links. Each participant will have four days to screen the films totaling 97 minutes. For more info, call the CMC Foundation Office at 760-366-3791 ext. 4200.
