LOWER-DESERT COUPLE ARRESTED IN YUCCA VALLEY FOLLOWING PURSUIT

A couple from the Low Desert was arrested in Yucca Valley Monday, after they fled from deputies who were trying to arrest them for shoplifting. According to a Sheriff’s report, deputies were called to the Home Depot store in Yucca Valley about 5:20 by employees who said that Damian Alba, 26, of Indio, was trying to steal items from the store. When law enforcement tried to contact Alba, he fled to a Nissan waiting outside, and the vehicle took off. A short pursuit ensued before Alba got out of the car and tried to flee on foot, but was detained by deputies. The driver, Maricela Lopez, 30, of Coachella, yielded to deputies. Maricela Lopez was arrested for investigation of felony failure to yield, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with her bail set at $100,000. Damian Alba was arrested on three out-of-county warrants, booked into the West Valley Detention Center, with his total bail set at $405,000.
